What is the Command Line Interface?

command_line_image_280.GIF (21508 bytes)

The basic version of PentaCLI is made up of 3 programs that:

  1. Create Compressed Archives
  2. Extract files from Compressed Archives
  3. Create Self Extracting Files (called "SFX").

The PRO version of PentaCLI (which is an Add-on for PentaSuite-PRO and PentaSuite Business-PRO) supplies a user with 8 more programs that are fully integrated with those offered  by the basic version. These are the functions PentaCLI-PRO has to offer:

  1. Strong Encryption
  2. Sending email messages
  3. Burning CD's and DVD's
  4. Converting Graphics and DOC files to and from other supported formats
  5. Batch printing of printable files
  6. PDF creation
  7. Conversion between PDF versions
  8. FTP - File Transfer Protocol including encrypted FTP using SSL.

What does the Command Line Interface do?

The purpose of the PentaWare Command Line Interface programs is to give our users a means to create unattended procedures that can be used on a recurring basis to perform backups, to save data (images, movies, documents, etc.) in the convenient and well known zip format. Once an archive has been created you can then:

  1. encrypt it
  2. convert it into a Self Extracting file
  3. copy it to a CD or to a DVD
  4. upload it to a remote computer or web site using FTP (even using SSL)
  5. send it (or a link to it) to somebody using email
  6. create one or more batch files containing command line interface procedures
  7. create a shortcut on your desktop that leads to a batch file containing command line procedures
  8. place a batch file containing command line procedures in the PentaZip Scheduler to achieve unattended and recurring execution

These are just some examples of what you can do. A detailed example is provided here.

The PentaWare Command Line Interface is useful for Network Administrators that have to plan, design and deploy automated tasks for their users or for themselves.

It is also useful for the home user that wants to manage his or her data.
