  1. PentaCLI-PRO - added FTP functionality to our Command Line Suite. The program to use is chFTP FTP support includes SSL (Secure Socket Layer) support to allow for secure encrypted file transfers. The standard Windows Command Line FTP client does not offer SSL nor are the versions available with the different versions of Windows fully aligned with one another.

    1. CD Burning from the Command Line (chCD)
    2. Email support from the Command Line (chMail)

Build 8.1.0.120

  1. PentaPDF-PRO - We have completely rewritten PentaPDF-PRO. This allows for:
    1. Greatly enhanced speed in generating PDF files. Creation takes 50% of the time required by the previous version.
    2. We have added PDF 1.5 and 128 bit encryption to guarantee compatibility with Acrobat Version 6.0.
    3. Selectable PDF version (from 1.0 to 1.5).
This is important for PDF string encryption requirements (40 bit or 128 bit) as well as for destination applications that may require PDF files created using different versions. Unicode character set is supported only from PDF version 1.3 or greater.
    4. Better handling of Paper sizes. Some Custom sizes are now supported based on the file to be converted..
    5. Much improved PDF creation from PowerPoint presentations
    6. Conversion between different versions of PDF (from 1.4 to 1.2 for example) now being available with PentaCLI-PRO.
    7. PowerPoint output is now always enabled. There were some issues in previous versions of PentaPDF with some older versions of Microsoft Office which did not allow PDF creation from some PowerPoint files.
    8. Starting and ending page number in the range of document pages to convert can be zero. This can happen, for example, when a Word document has a cover page with page 1 being the second page
    9. Addition of Color Mode under Preferences allowing for PDF output in:
      1. RGB
      2. CMYK
      3. Grayscale
    10. Enhanced management of Image resolution when creating PDF files the addition of Selectable DPI settings for images (from 72 DPI to 2048 DPI).
  2. PentaBrowser - modified behavior of docking making sure that docking is possible in all circumstances.
  3. PentaBrowser - Preview is now always functional. The delay/lengthy pause that was noticed in some cases prior to being able to see the preview image has been eliminated.
  4. PentaView - Added Real size Printing/Preview of images with fit-to-page or % sizing. Resize in cm or inches is now correct size (using proper image resolution). Previously all sizes were in pixels regardless of whether cm or inches was set.
  5. PentaView - Added resolution information to Image Properties.
  6. PentaView - Added Page setup for image printing.
  7. PentaView - Corrected image insert issue (with transparent background and not Autoscale).
There were occasional instances in which when activating PentaView from the task bar some images did not become visible.
  8. PentaView - corrected frame extraction to bmp which in some instances just stalled.
  9. PentaView - activated Comment insertion on the left panel.
  10. PentaView - selected pane is maintained when changing image instead of defaulting to the comments pane.
  11. PentaView - added stop/play animation command and frame selection for animated GIFs.
PentaPDF-PRO is available with PentaSuite-PRO, PentaSuite Business-PRO and PentaSuite Server Editions

PentaView is available with PentaZip and all versions of PentaSuite

Build 8.0.1.105

  1. PentaWare Manager - you can now minimize the PentaWare Manager to the System Tray. Double click on the PentaWare Tray Icon to restore PentaWare Manager.
  2. PentaEXIF - Added ability to search within EXIF data for images created within a range of dates and times. This is very useful to identify exact duplicate images due to copying files to different locations or to renaming copies of original images
  3. PentaEXIF - Searches based on Files has had the date filter replaced with a date and time range filter
  4. PentaEXIF- The number of images that can be managed has been increased to about 5000
  5. PentaEXIF- Added EXIF info zapping in files (i.e. you can remove EXIF data if you don't want people to know how you set your camera when taking a given picture)
  6. PentaEXIF - Added Cut, Copy,Paste functionality
  7. PentaConverter - Corrected Nikon DCR file .conversion procedure (was not converting to GIF)
  8. PentaBrowser - Added Cut,Copy functionality
  9. PentaBrowser - Made numerous changes to the Tools menu
  10. PentaBrowser - Restored thumbnails generated by Windows and not belonging to our set of supported extensions (including sub folders preview). This was not allowing Thumbnails to be seen when the user had "Hide extensions for known file types" set to ON (the Windows initial default).
  11. PentaBrowser - Folders now show reduced size thumbnails if the same folders contain images
  12. PentaBrowser - Preview of exe files is now showing the first icon contained in the exe file.
  13. PentaBrowser - Reduced the number of running Thumbnail creation threads. This has eliminated the cause of occasional "out of system resources" messages.
  14. PentaPGP - The "Bad Passphrase" message was not being issued when required,
  15. PentaPGP - File Preferences became blank (only in program form fields) after a new key had been generated
  16. PentaPGP - Implemented copy and paste of a text as input or output within PentaPGP.
  17. PentaView - When an image was changed using the AutoContrast feature, the file was not "flagged" as modified. The AutoContrast change was therefore lost if the user did not manually save the modified file prior to changing image. The user is now informed that a change has been made and has the option to save the modified file as is true for the other editing options
  18. PentaView - When deleting an image and the file was the last in a given folder the deletion would not always take place. This has been corrected so that the deleted image will be replaced by the previous one, if there is one or else it will be replaced by a new empty document.
  19. PentaCLI - chCrypt - modified caching passphrase usage to respond to user requests
  20. Conversion to PDF -This was not always working properly when the user had "Hide extensions for known file types" set to ON (the Windows initial default).
  21. PentaPDF - Starting/ending page number in the range of the document pages to convert can be zero. Previously the starting page had to be 1 which would exclude Word Document pages used as initial Cover Pages with page numbering starting from a subsequent page.
  22. PentaPDF - corrected conversion of HTML files on Windows 2000 based systems both from inside PentaView and from the Right Mouse menu
  23. PentaCD - When copying files to a CD or a DVD the date will remain that of the original file (the one being copied). Previously the date was changed to the Date the copy to CD or DVD was being made.
  24. PentaCD - Extended use of CD and DVD burning to PentaZip from within the Main program as well as from the right mouse commands. PentaDVD is only available with PentaSuite.
  25. PentaDVD - When copying files to a CD or a DVD the date will remain that of the original file (the one being copied). Previously the date was changed to the Date the copy to CD or DVD was being made.
  26. PentaDVD - Added checkboxes to select files to be deleted after burning
  27. PentaDVD - Fixed problem on "Wrong filename list" window in system using large fonts
  28. PentaDVD - File deletion (when set to ON) now takes place AFTER a CD or DVD has been successfully burned (i.e. created). Previously if output was to a ZIP or other compressed archive, file deletion would occur after the compressed archive had been created successfully but prior to the successful copy of the same archive to a CD or DVD.
  29. PentaDVD - A message with a request to mount a CD or DVD prior to burning is now shown. The CD or DVD Media mounting request was already implemented by PentaCD

Build 8.0.1.101

  1. PentaZip/PentaZip Shell - ZIP64 will be automatically selected if the total size of the files selected exceeds 4GB (the selected algorithm will be deflate64 in this case). Previously this behavior was standard only for PentaZip Scripts and had to be manually set for PentaZip and PentaZip Shell
  2. PentaZip - the "Delete After Compression" option reset to OFF after each compression.
  3. PentaZip - added support for burning to CD's and DVD's through PentaCD. PentaDVD is only available with PentaSuite. This support is for ALL Windows Operating systems and not just for Windows XP.

  4. PentaPDF - corrected PDF creation in cases in which original document was in Microsoft Word and there were at least 2 columns.
  5. PentaView (if already running) would attempt to open a new file in the current window instead of trying to automatically open a new window. This has been corrected.

  2. Put a reference to specific files to be transferred in the file list that will be manually started by the user
  3. Schedule specific transfers to take place at a given starting time.

PentaFTP File Transfer Progress is now shown under the “State” column of the “List” view at the bottom of the PentaFTP screen.

If an error occurs, the error message will be written in that same column.

If you want to cancel a file transfer just select a row (or more than one row if multiple transfers are listed) and delete them by pressing the "Delete" key on your keyboard.

Any selected transfer that is cancelled this way will abort within a few seconds.

  • Released PentaCLI-PRO - Professional version of Command Line Interface
  • Released PentaSuite - DigiPhoto
  • Released PentaSuite - Business

Additions and changes made in July 2004

  • Added support for PKZip and WinZip ZIP archive encryption

PentaWare products support 7 different strong encryption algorithms and offer 2 different encryption methods.

Archives Encrypted using one of the standard PentaSuite encryption methods are identifiable based on their extension. As examples

    • a ZIP archive encrypted using PGP will have an extension ZIP.PGP
    • an LZH archive encrypted using AES will have an extension LZH.AES

Archives Encrypted using either PKZip encryption or WinZip encryption cannot be readily identified as they will all have a .ZIP extension regardless of whether encrypted or not. This means that not all ZIP programs currently on the market can handle all the files in circulation that have a .ZIP extension. This is also true for archives that are larger than 4GB created using the ZIP64 algorithm.

PentaWare products that manage compressed archives can all open and extract from:

    • archives larger than 4GB
    • archives encrypted using standard PentaZip or PentaSuite encryption
    • archives encrypted using either PKZip encryption or WinZip encryption.

Programs that support PKZip/WinZip encryption include:

    • PentaZip Main Interface
    • PentaZip Shell
    • PentaZip Scripts
    • PentaZip Command Line Interface
  • Added enhanced PDF creation for PentaSuite

PentaPDF has been enhanced for users of PentaSuite offering even better PDF creation. PDF creation will be extended to numerous other Microsoft Office programs such as Power Point and to applications made by other producers. Formats supported are DOC, RTF, HTML, TXT, PPT and XLS.

Additions and changes made in June 2004

  • Added PDF Creation from Microsoft Word, PentaView, PentaConverter and (for supported formats) from right mouse context menu

We have added support for conversion to Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) from the formats PentaSuite supports. This includes graphics formats (JPG, TIF, FIF, etc.) and Document and Spreadsheet formats (DOC, RTF, HTML, TXT and XLS.

Creation of PDF files (for supported file formats) is available from:

    1. a PentaWare toolbar inserted in Microsoft Word
    2. the Right mouse context menu
    3. PentaView
    4. PentaConverter

Additions and changes made in May 2004

  • PentaSuite 7.1 Has Been Released!

PentaSuite 7.1 was released on May 4, 2004.

Two new features are wonderful additions for our digital photographers out there.

PentaFrameGrabber and PentaRename are valuable tools that will make storing and viewing of your precious images much easier.

  • The possible users of PentaFrameGrabber can be professionals as well as home users. We designed PentaFrameGrabber as a convenient and easy to use means of saving frames captured from movies (AVI, MPG and MOV) as common graphics files. Home movies, Professionally made video shots, Medical application generated movie files made during CAT scans and more.

These are placed along size PentaResize, PentaConvert, PentaView, PentaDVD and PentaCD, PentaBrowser. All of these programs will help make your Digital Photography experience better and easier.

  • PentaRename is a program that is used to rename single files or numerous files ("batch renaming") at one time. (For example IMG001.jpg, IMG002.jpg, etc to John_and_Marys_wedding_001.jpg, John_and_Marys_wedding_002.jpg, etc.). A really great feature of PentaRename is its ability to copy or move files from a CD or a DVD to a Hard drive and making the renaming changes at the same time. A subset of this utility is available in PentaAlbum (also a part of PentaSuite).

Please visit this link for more information about PentaFrameGrabber and PentaRename : PentaSuite PRO introduction.htm

    4. Created, Tested and Opened inside PentaZip

  • Added check whether files are locked by another program during compression

  • Added check whether files are locked by another program during compression using Command Line Interface
Typical cases where file locking can interfere with ZIP compression are database files, Outlook PST files and Word Doc files among others. This will give users the choice of waiting for the file to be unlocked, skipping the locked file, retrying and canceling.

This new program allows users to view Exif information and search for images that contain Exif information.Searches can be made based on Make, Shutter Speed,, File name, etc.

Additions and changes made in February 2004

  • HTML Generator is now called PentaAlbum

The name change became necessary because of the increased importance of PDF in the program.

  • Command Line Interface

We have added 3 new features to the Command Line Interface:

  1. Burning CD's and DVD's from the command line
  2. Strong Encryption from the command line
  3. Email from the command line

This will allow you to create batch files for backing up even large quantities of data onto CD's or DVD's using also strong encryption where needed. One possible use besides backups, is to help protect sensitive data stored on a laptop. If the data is encrypted at the time the laptop is turned off, the risk of undesired knowledge can be greatly reduced.

  • PentaAlbum (PentaWare Photo Album - HTML Generator)

We have added numerous features to the Photo Album program:

    1. Photo Albums can be made using ANY of the graphic and Digital Photography file formats that we support. That includes 12 different RAW formats that cover an extremely large number of Digital Camera brands and models.
    2. Preview of Photo Album inside the Program
    3. Saving and subsequent opening of Photo Album Pages
    4. Better management of Templates
    5. Moving images up and down in the list not obliging you to keep images in alphabetical, date or some other order
    6. Added PDF in Landscape format
    7. Absolute and Relative Path references for Thumbnails
    8. Edit with button using installed HTML editors
    9. Generate thumbnail images that you can use for other programs.
    10. the ability to rename images directly from within PentaAlbum

  • PentaAlbum Wizard (PentaWare Photo Album Wizard)

We have added a wizard to PentaAlbum as a means for users to create photo albums and image based web pages quickly and easily. With the addition of the PentaAlbum Wizard we have implemented a three tiered approach:

  1. Make album pages quickly with the new wizard
  2. Resume editing the web page using our photo album program
  3. Add yet more features to your album page using your favorite HTML editor (FrontPage, Dreamweaver, etc.)
  • Added Savable projects to most programs

PentaWare has added a new feature to many of the programs in PentaSuite, the ability to save work as a project so you can go back to it at a later date to update/change web pages, scripts, encryption options, etc The programs to which this has been added are: PentaCollector, PentaConverter, PentaAlbum and PentaRename.

  • Preview module in all programs

We have added image preview areas in the following programs so that users can view what pictures they are converting, encrypting, zipping and putting into a photo album:

    1. PentaZip,
    2. PentaCollector,
    3. PentaConverter,
    4. PentaDVD,
    5. PentaAlbum and
    6. PentaRename

  • Browser and PentaView

    Added the following formats:

    1. Added support for loading raw (CRW) images from several new Canon cameras, including the Digital Rebel (300D). Conversion to JPG, TIF, etc. is supported.
    2. Added support for loading raw (ORF) images from the Olympus C5060 camera. Conversion to JPG, TIF, etc. is supported.
    3. Improved the color definition/balance achieved during Minolta MRW (raw) processing which allows more Camera models to be supported.
    4. Enhanced the processing of JASC Paint Shop Pro images to support image files produced by all versions of Paint Shop Pro.

  • PentaRename Utility

This is a very useful tool that can be used to rename single files or numerous files ("batch renaming") at one time. (For example IMG001.jpg, IMG002.jpg, etc to John_and_Marys_wedding_001.jpg, John_and_Marys_wedding_002.jpg, etc.). A subset of this utility is available in the Photo Album program (PentaHTML).

In addition to renaming files with the options to:

    1. add a prefix or a suffix
    2. change a portion of a name to something else (img -> John_and_Marys_wedding
    3. renumber a group of images using a consecutive number scheme with a user defined starting point
    4. change case (Capitalize, UPPER CASE, lower case)
    5. modify date and time
    6. copy files from a CD or a DVD to another drive removing the Read Only attribute at the same time.

PentaRename can also change file attributes. An example that shows how this can come in handy would be when you move a group of files from a CD or a DVD to a Hard Drive and you want to remove the Read Only attribute that is always set when files are placed on a CD or a DVD.

A really great feature of PentaRename is its ability to copy or move files from a CD or a DVD to a Hard drive and making the renaming changes at the same time.

  • Compression - Management of Segmented (Multi-Volume) ZIP Archives

We have made numerous changes to the management of MultiVolume files created using PentaZip. The introduction of Standard Mode and Compact Mode concerns how the Archives will be copied to a CD.

    1. Standard mode - Every segment will be copied to a separate CD or DVD. Volumes will be named PKBACK#nnn using the naming convention that has been used in the past for MultiVolume. All archive segments are called .ZIP
    2. Compact mode - Copy more than one segment to every CD or DVD. Volumes can have any name. This is a more flexible method but may require more human intervention to extract data from the segmented archive. Archive segments are named .ZIP, .z01, .z02, .z03, etc. These segments can be copied to a hard drive without renaming.

  • Compression - Preview pane for images when creating Zip Archives

Images Preview pane added to the Compression form. This was added to assist users when they are selecting image files to be included in a compressed archive.

  • PentaCollector

We have added the ability to save and subsequently open the list of files selected using PentaCollector as a PentaCollector Project (extension .pzc). This will prove to be particularly useful for recurring tasks.

  • PentaConverter

We have added the ability to save and subsequently open the list of files selected using PentaConverter.

  • General look and feel of all programs - Initial Release (November 2003)

This allows for background creation of all thumbnails (this feature is subject to more testing as one reviewer has noted a few non parsed folders when the number of folders in a given path was very large.). This feature has to be selected by the user. Otherwise the DB will be “fed” by the thumbnails that get created in each folder as you select it. Thumbnails get updated if a file changes. Thumbnail background color will be user selectable.
  2. New Appearance feature (from Options menu)

This allows for positioning of Preview, Thumbnails and folders according to your needs. Three row and three column views will be added prior to final release.

  1. New Thumbnail manager – behavior is much closer to that of Windows explorer when copying, moving, etc.
  2. Added Support for numerous Digital Photography “RAW” formats (the formats that Digital Cameras save pictures internally with).
  3. Added support for PDF file viewing, copying and printing.
  4. Improved HTML page viewing allowing also for access to the Internet from within the client.

PentaZip Compression Manager

1 - File Associations

Up until Version 6, PentaZip created Associations with all supported Compressed Archives automatically during the Installation phase. Now the Compressed archive formats are no longer automatically assigned. After Installing PentaSuite you will see the following message:

You will be prompted with the following screen according to whether you decide to associate PentaZip with some or all compressed file formats or not.

We have therefore rendered File Association User Selectable.

Once you have associated PentaZip with a compressed Archive format, the section relating to that format will look similar to the following image:

2 - Self Decrypting Archives

One of the most recent changes to PentaZip was already made available in the latest builds of Version 6 (September 2003). The most important change concerns the encryption screen on the “New” from (the Compression Form) that gets activated by turning on “Protect with Encryption”

3 - Split MultiVolume ZIP archives

Added Split MultiVolume ZIP archives (each segment will be numbered .z01, .z02, .....z99. From segment 100 onwards, the numbering will be .100, .101, etc. Such MultiVolume files can also be stored ANYWHERE on your system so you can save the segments on your hard drive and then email them to whomever you want to. MultiVolume ZIP archives can be set to create numerous email messages (one for each segment). You may get asked if you will let PentaSuite send multiple messages.

4 - Emailing of Split MultiVolume ZIP archives

Added Emailing of Split MultiVolume ZIP archives. Each segment is attached to a separate email message. You can prepare your email message and send it from inside PentaZip. PentaZip will use your current Email program.

Encryption in PentaWare products

  1. PentaZip – AES, DES, Triple DES, Blowfish, MARS and Serpent
  2. PentaSuite – AES, DES, Triple DES, Blowfish, MARS and Serpent as well as Self-Decrypting files (AES and Twofish), PGP
  3. PentaDVD - AES, DES, Triple DES, Blowfish, MARS and Serpent as well as Self-Decrypting files (AES and Twofish), PGP

PentaRename

This is a very useful tool that can be used to rename single files or numerous files ("batch renaming") at one time. (For example IMG001.jpg, IMG002.jpg, etc to John_and_Marys_wedding_001.jpg, John_and_Marys_wedding_002.jpg, etc.). A subset of this utility is available in the Photo Album program (PentaHTML).

Command Line Encryption

Strong Encryption from the command line will be useful for all users that need to :

  1. protect critical data kept on their computer
  2. backup data to removable media maintaining a high level of security
  3. protect important data on laptops. Users can insert in their Login and Logout procedures a reference to a batch file that will encrypt files using one of the methods that PentaZip offers:
  1. A = AES
  2. D = DES
  3. B = Blowfish
  4. S = Serpent
  5. M = Mars
  6. T3 = Triple Des (3 keys)
  7. T2 = Triple Des (2 keys)
  8. Self decrypting executable using either AES or Twofish

This can allow for automatic encryption when the user logs off/shuts down his/her computer and automatic decryption when that user logs on again.
