PentaCLI-PRO Server Edition

PentaCLI-PRO is one of the very few
Workstation software products that:

makes PGP™ Encrypted files
from the Command Line.
makes PDF files
from the Command Line.

PentaWare, Inc. has been authorized by PGP, Inc. to use the PGP SDK technology and the PGP Trademark based on an OEM agreement dated April 10, 2003.

Many of our corporate and business users have requested dedicated "Server" versions of our products to take advantage of the greater processing power that certain servers have to offer. Designed with speed in mind, our Server versions are all based on multi-threading technology. If a Server has 4 CPU's installed our command line programs will take advantage of as much processing power as possible during execution.

Server Editions are available for:

  • PentaSuite-PRO (which includes PentaCLI-PRO for Servers)
  • PentaZip (which includes 6 utilities out of the 11 available with PentaSuite -PRO Server Ed.)

What does the Command Line Interface do?

The purpose of the PentaWare Command Line Interface programs is to give our users a means to create unattended procedures that can be used on a recurring basis to perform backups, to save data (images, movies, documents, etc.) in the convenient and well known zip format. Once an archive has been created you can then:

  1. encrypt it
  2. convert it into a Self Extracting file
  3. copy it to a CD or to a DVD
  4. send it to somebody using email
  5. upload it using FTP (including use of SSL)
  6. create one or more batch files containing command line interface procedures
  7. create a shortcut on your desktop that leads to a batch file containing command line procedures
  8. place a batch file containing command line procedures in the PentaZip Scheduler to achieve unattended and recurring execution

These are just some examples of what you can do. A detailed example is provided here.

The PentaWare Command Line Interface is useful for Network Administrators that have to plan, design and deploy automated tasks for their users or for themselves.

It is also useful for the home user that wants to manage his or her data.

The command Line Interface is frequently used to make "batch" files that can then be used repeatedly when required.

How to use Command Line Interface

You must insert the references to the PentaZip or PentaSuite program folders in your Path to be able to use chZip, chUnzip, chSfx, chCrypt or chCd.

To do so you must:

  1. open a CMD (a.k.a. MS-DOS) window
  2. insert the PATH command
  3. insert the command line program complete with all flags and options
Wizard_Available_Button.GIF (2258 bytes) Use of the PentaCLI Wizard will make things much easier when you have to prepare a Command Line string. This handy tool allows you to concentrate on the things you need to do. Syntax issues (that have always been a problem with Command Line programs) are taken care of for you.
