Logging Has Been Added to PentaSuite
The latest build of PentaSuite has been
enhanced with Transaction Logging (logging of tasks performed
by specific programs). We have added transaction logging
to PentaFTP and PentaPGP. We will be adding logging to other
PentaWare programs based on user response to this new feature.Transaction
Logging gets enabled from the Advanced Options
section using the "Log Settings"
section. You can select where the Log file will be stored
and eventual size limits.
Output is in normal CSV (comma separated
variable) format which can be "read" using Microsoft
Excel.
The following information gets logged:
- User Name
- Executable File Name
- Process ID
- Date and Time
- an Event Identifier
- a Message explains what program step
was performed
for example:
Event Identifier, Message = 1600,C:\trial.zip,
c:\trial.zip.pgp,0x43CECBA1
means
- PGP File Encryption
of file C:\trial.zip that was saved as C:\trial.zip.pgp
- the PGP Key ID is 0x43CECBA1
(in Hexadecimal format). The
PGP KEY ID is a unique identifying
number associated with each PGP key. This identification
number is useful for distinguishing between two keys
that share the same user name and email address and
can be useful when needing to reconstruct a PGP Key.
