1 - Great News for our PentaZip Users! We added CD and DVD Burning to PentaZip

We have offered CD and DVD burning for a number of years as an integral part of PentaSuite. The current version of PentaZip (starting with Build 8.0.1.104) now offers CD and DVD Burning.

This facility is available for users of ANY Windows Operating System starting with Windows 98 SE. Some producers of ZIP software have announced CD and DVD Burning but only for Windows XP.

As the size of files, computers and disk drives has grown constantly during the past years, the need to store large files on removable media has also grown exponentially. Floppy diskettes simply are no longer sufficient for this purpose.

PentaZip and PentaSuite offer CD and DVD Burning from inside the Main Interface.

You can create (i.e. "burn") output on the following media types:

Type of media Variants Available with
CD (Compact Disk)
  • CD-R
  • CD-R/W
PentaZip and PentaSuite
DVD ("DVD" is an acronym that stands for "Digital Versatile Disc". It has also been known as "Digital Video Disc" which, however, is too limiting use-wise as DVD's can store any kind of data).
  • DVD+R
  • DVD+R/W
  • DVD-R
  • DVD-R/W
PentaZip and PentaSuite

DVD-RAM disks will be supported in an upcoming release of PentaSuite.

You can burn CD's and/or DVD's within various PentaSuite programs:

  • PentaZip Main Interface
  • Right Mouse Menu (the "Shell") allowing any file or group of files to be copied to a CD or to a DVD
  • PentaView - our single file viewer (also called PentaView Client)
  • PentaBrowser
  • PentaCollector

PentaCD/DVD can either insert the files you have selected in a new compressed archive (in any of the supported writing formats: ZIP, ZIP64, ZGB, LHa/LZH, BH, TAR, GZip, TGZ, JAR and CAB) or copy them to the CD either recreating the directory layout ("Path") or as single files (duplicate file names will not be copied in this latter case).

PentaCD/DVD is an internal function of PentaSuite that you can use whenever you need to place data on a CD or DVD. You can do this directly from inside PentaZip.

Delete files After CD/DVD Burning is available with PentaCD (and for PentaSuite users with PentaDVD too).

PentaZip users with active and current maintenance agreements are entitled to upgrade to the new version free of charge.

Users with previous versions of PentaZip can upgrade to the latest version here.

2 - A new way to look at our Tutorials

We all know that reading help file descriptions and software manuals about various program features isn't the most exciting thing in the world. That's why we have created a series of "movie-like" tutorials that will help make learning how to use our programs more enjoyable and easier to follow.

Now they may not be as exciting as a Jackie Chan movie but you'll find them much easier to deal with than reading page after page concerning subjects like "How to create a Compressed Archive using PentaZip" or "How to Decrypt a WinZip/PKZip Encrypted ZIP Archive".

The following presentations will show you how to use various features and perform specific tasks using our products.

To view any of the Tutorials below just press the Play Demo button.

3 - Finally the PentaWare Manager can be minimized to the System Tray

Double click on the PentaWare Tray Icon to restore PentaWare Manager. This has been requested by many users and is particularly useful for users that have installed one of our products on a Laptop and have problems fitting many programs on a relatively small screen.

To activate this just right click on the surface of the PentaWare Manager and click on "Minimize to Tray". This icon tray_icon_manager.gif (1115 bytes) will become visible when the Minimize to Tray feature has been enabled. To restore the PentaWare Manager just double click on the tray_icon_manager.gif (1115 bytes) icon.

To disable this feature right click on the surface of the PentaWare Manager and click on "Minimize to Tray" again.

4 - Think you have duplicate images on your computer but don't have the time to sift through hundred, possibly thousands of images?

We added to PentaEXIF the ability to search for groups of images that were taken within a range of dates and times.

This is very useful to identify duplicate images due to copying files to different locations or to renaming copies of original images

This is in addition to the search by image date and time which has been available for some time.
